Voicemails That Don't Suck: Turning Missed Calls into "OMG, Call Them Back!" Moments

Okay, let's talk about voicemails.

We know, we know. In the age of instant gratification (hello, next-day delivery!), leaving a message can feel about as outdated as a dial-up internet connection.

But hold on, before you write them off entirely, hear us out.

A good voicemail is like a surprise Netflix recommendation: It grabs your attention, piques your interest, and leaves you wanting more. And in the world of sales, that "more" could be a closed deal.

Why Voicemails Still Matter (Even in 2023):

  • Cut Through the Clutter: Let's face it, your prospect's inbox is probably overflowing like a college student's laundry basket. A voicemail is your chance to break through the noise and get noticed.

  • Show Off Your Personality:  Emails can be dry and impersonal. A voicemail lets you showcase your enthusiasm and charm. (Bonus points if you can work in a witty reference or two.)

  • Plant the Seed: A well-crafted voicemail can create a sense of mystery and intrigue, leaving your prospect eager to learn more. (Think of it as the sales equivalent of a cliffhanger ending.)

Crafting a Voicemail That Doesn't Make People Cringe:

  • Brevity is Key: Nobody wants to listen to a voicemail monologue worthy of an Oscar. Keep it short, sweet, and to the point (aim for 30 seconds or less).

  • Hook 'Em From the Start: Your opening line should be as attention-grabbing as a viral TikTok dance.

  • Get to the Point: Briefly explain why you're calling and what's in it for them. (Hint: it's not about you, it's about solving their problems.)

  • Give Them a Reason to Call Back: Tell them exactly what you want them to do. "Call me back to schedule a demo" is way more effective than "Hope to hear from you soon!"

  • Contact Info 101: Say your name and number clearly and slowly. Twice. (We all have those moments of selective hearing.)

  • End on a High Note: Thank them for their time and let them know you're looking forward to connecting. (Bonus points for a touch of humor or a genuine compliment.)

Pro Tips to Level-Up Your Voicemail Game:

  • Smile While You Talk: It'll make your voice sound friendlier and more engaging. (Science, people!)

  • Practice Makes Perfect: Nobody wants to hear a robotic, monotone message. Rehearse your script a few times to sound natural and confident.

  • Timing is Everything: Try leaving voicemails early in the morning or late in the afternoon when people are more likely to check their messages.

  • Don't Give Up:  If you don't hear back, follow up with another call or email. Persistence is key!

Remember, a voicemail is your chance to make a killer first impression, even if it's not face-to-face. So ditch the generic scripts and craft messages that are as unique and memorable as you are.

Now go out there and turn those missed calls into closed deals!
